A Challenging Change – Making the Move from Marketing to General Management

Marketing maybe the realm of marketing executives – but the ultimate decisions in that field are often taken by the general management. So it’s only logical that marketing executives who want to make a difference evolve to business leaders. This is exactly what happened to me.

changeRecently Spencer Stuart surveyed 500 marketing executives across all industries to learn where their career paths led to: marketing or general management. Overall, the survey revealed that 70 percent of respondents have long-term aspirations of becoming a general manager or chief executive officer whereas only 30 percent want to be a chief marketing officer.

This made me think about my own career path. I made my way…

Innovative Thinking to Drive Commercialization of Logistics Services

canstockphoto15001913Geobrand was originally developed jointly with Greenstreet, to respond to the requirements of the sales and marketing organization of one Logistics Service Provider only, who needed a powerful solution to illustrate global logistics services efficiently and on-brand.

Great to see that this was not a one-hit wonder but a sustainable, powerful solution that made it to the cover page of American Shipper recently!

A Different Kind of Workware!

Corp Fashion“After receiving numerous customer complaints, a German plumbing firm bought their plumbers a new t-shirt, designed to make their employees more attractive to the customers.”, this was the comment I received from a friend about this special version of workware. Originally the campaign was targeted towards teenager, trying to create a Western union agent buzz for craft apprenticeships.

However- defintely attention getting and smart.

Hot, Hotter, Hotellogistics

Sandstorms, 45 ° C in the shade, and a relentless Sun, the starting point for my engagement in Saudi Arabia was already challenging. To deal with the logistics of probably the world’s largest hotel project then one still far from larger. On behalf of  4seohunt.com/www/www.altvater.ch Kuehne + Nagel and several 5 star hotels I supported a team that ensured the smooth management of transport and equipment for sample rooms. The precise and careful planning, as well as the detailed preparations in  Switzerland paid off. The air freight shipments from different suppliers from around the world, the customs clearance in Jedda and also the storage and installation work on the ground ran despite the various challenges promptly and smoothly. In the desert of Saudi of Arabia my ability to develop pragmatic solutions and understand complex  information came to play as well as my strength to communicate effectively on  different levels and to work hands-on. With many years of professional experience in an Arab company, the numerous global business travel as well as my understanding of other cultures and people I contributed significantly to the success of the team.

“Holger was able to make himself acquainted with requirements of our customers in a very short time, so that he optimally coordinated processes and we delivered the  highest quality.”, says Achim Glass, VP Hotellogistics at Kuehne + Nagel.

The very good results of the project allow Kuehne + Nagel to recommend themselves for even greater subsequent projects.

Sales Management: A Strategic and Analytical Challenge!

Globalization, new technologies, and always more heterogeneous customer structures cause increased competition and pressures in the B2B business and puts new challenges in front of the sales management. Historically “Sales” was primarily selling, but now sales management is also an analytical and strategic challenge for the corporate management. The sales management in the B2B area developed more and more in the direction of the consumer goods industry, where it is always been a part of marketing. Many companies are therefore currently also looking for new talent.
